Details of Dancers in Metal by Bruce Hathaway

Title: "The Arch"
Material: Powder Coated Mild Steel
Dimensions: 16" High X 11" Wide
Signed: Initials On Base
Completed: January, 2003
Status: Available
Notes: The Arch is a compostition based upon the interaction of pure lines. As the work is viewed from different perspectives, the lines can be seen to form a circle, an oval, or half of the yin yang symbol. Hidden are Cupid's bow and arrow. "The Arch" evolved from two previous compositions, a study in steel and a completed sculpture in aluminum.

Title: "Casting A Dream"
Material: Welded Aluminum & Carved White Marble
Dimensions: 31" High x 28" Wide
Signed and Dated: On back side of hair
Completed: July, 2004
Status: Available
Notes: The figures are composed of hundreds of weld "drops" intended to give the work a shimmering sense of movement. The couple "stand" upon a carved white marble base which restates, on a larger scale, the texture of the aluminum figures.

Title: "Lifted"
Material: Aluminum
Dimensions: 20" High
Signed and Dated: On Top of Aluminum Base
Completed: October, 2000
Status: SOLD
Notes: In defiance of gravity, the female is suspended in mid air. Working together, the couple transcend physical constaints for a moment in time. Neither figure looks at the other while they cooperate to accomplish their feat. They act independently.

Title: "Dancing With Leaves"
Material: Stainless Steel
Dimensions: 7" High
Signed and Dated: On Stainless Steel Base
Completed: March, 2000
Status: SOLD
Notes: "Dancing with Leaves" is simply about a male and a female joining to complete a circle, a wholeness. It is not meant to imply a oneness as in merging together. The leaves represent the sometimes primitive nature of the female/male relationship. The circle speaks to the spiritual aspect of their union which encompasses and floats above the primitive. The two aspects cannot be separated.
